Night of the Tiger - a ROARING success

A very special evening hosted by the EIA (Environmental Investigation agency). The aim of the night was to raise funds for Tiger conservation in Asia & India. Tiger enthusiasts & celebrities joined in 15 simultaneous meals at some of London's most exclusive Indian restaurants. At the end of the evening everyone met up at the exclusive Soho club for a very special Auction.

Mothers reassurance - Craig Roberts Tigress mother & cub original acrylic painting SOLD on the evening to Mike Batt for £1,300, which went to the EIA  for their conservation projects to help insure survival of Tigers in the wild.

Vic Reeves and Joanna Lumley just some of the guestsGuests enjoyed a wonderful evening; other celebrity donations included a signed guitar by STING. Mothers reassurance, Tiger painting, Craig worked from a Stephen Mills unpublished photograph taken in 2003 while filming in Bandhavgarh National park, India. Stephen Mills who went on safari with Craig to Tanzania in February 2005 is now head of campaigns at the EIA in London. Stephen is a talented filmmaker for the BBC & Safari naturalist. I hope to travel to East Africa & India with Stephen in the near future to gather more reference material & inspiration for future paintings. Coming soon INSEPARABLE (Two Tigers in Bandhavgarh, India), my latest Tiger painting.

Night of the tiger auction - as a result of Stephen Mills contacting me about the desperate plight the tigers in India's national parks & Tibet. I set about painting an original tiger painting for the Night of the tiger evening hosted by the EIA. Their urgent tiger campaign was something I had to get involved with & will continue to do so. Poaching in India is rife, with only 5000 wild tigers remaining worldwide. In October 2003 the Chinese authorities seized a lorry leaded with animal skins near Lhasa in Tibet. It contained hundreds of otter & leopard skins & 31 fresh tiger skins. This absolutely shocking seizure makes very disturbing reading, with this knowledge I had to do what I could to help the EIA with their critically important work. Night of the tiger is one small but very important step in this fight to preserve some of the world's most magnificent animals.
