Rhinos are great fun to paint the texture of the rough hide and the combination of raw power, matched with cute ears and of course the impressive horn makes them perfect to paint. I wanted to reflect a strong sense of sadness in the eye, with a hint of humour munching the leaves as if not a care in the world, which unfortunately is quite the opposite.
Sad Eyes (Black Rhino) was reproduced in 2004 from an original acrylic by the artist Craig Roberts, a painter of African Wildlife Art.
